Winston-Salem Foreclosure Filings Up in January 2011

We still have an over supply of bank-owned REO properties for sale on the local Triad housing market, and it looks like more are on the way.  The Winston-Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) had 345 foreclosure filings in January, 2011.  This was an increase of 36.9% from January of 2010.   The number of filings was up 45 percent from December, 2010.  The MSA includes Forsyth, Davie, Stokes and Yadkin counties.  The Greensboro-High Point MSA filings were up 9.3 percent to 484. 

Forsyth County had 333 filings in January, which was up from 232 last January, and 211 in December.

However January foreclosure filings were down overall in North Carolina 3.9% from January of 2010 to 3040.  The Charlotte, Raleigh, and Durham MSA's were all down.

Fall Day In Winston Salem, NC

I had a few hours one day this week to walk around and enjoy a beautiful fall day in Downtown Winston Salem and Old Salem.  I took these photos with my HTC EVO 4g phone.  It has an 8 megapixel camera, so it takes pretty decent photos.  I did edit them slightly to really bring out the fall colors.

North Carolina Selected As Top Business Climate

North Carolina has been selected as having the best climate for business for 2010 by Site Selection Magazine. North Carolina has dominated the annual selection for the last ten years, winning six years in a row and 9 out of the last 10 (reminds me of the same domination in NCAA Basketball!). The rankings are based 50% on state performance and 50% by a survey of corporate site hunters. The article lists several strengths of NC including higher-education resources; work-force training initiatives; moderate climate; and transportation infrastructure (Do you hear that NC DOT? Winston Salem needs the Northern Beltway to help NC...sooner than later!). The magazine also stated the proactive business recruiting by the governor. Help a Child with MDA Go to Camp

I'm getting "locked up" for MDA & need your help.  The MDA "Lock Up" is a fun fundraiser that will send kids with MDA to camp, so please help these kids out!

MDA sends more than 4,000 youngsters with muscular dystrophy to accessible MDA summer camps each year, at a cost to MDA of $800 per camper. There's no charge to families.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.  MDA is the world's largest non-governmental sponsor of research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases, sponsoring 330 research projects annually.

Winston-Salem is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Winston-Salem is the county seat and largest city of Forsyth County and the fourth-largest city in the state. Winston-Salem is the second largest municipality in the Piedmont Triad region and is home to the tallest office buildings in the region, such as 100 North Main Street. It is called the "Twin City" for its dual heritage, or "Camel City", a reference to Camel cigarettes and the city's prominent tobacco industry; many locals use "Winston" in informal speech.
Other city nicknames include "The Dash," which is the name of the city's minor league baseball team and refers to the hyphen between "Winston" and "Salem".

Winston-Salem is home to three universities and one college: Wake Forest University, a nationally distinguished private university, Winston-Salem State University, a historically-black university founded in 1892, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Salem College, a four-year liberal arts college for women.

In 2003, the previous Greensboro - Winston-Salem - High Point metropolitan statistical area (MSA) was re-defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, resulting in the formation of the Greensboro-High Point MSA and the Winston-Salem MSA. The 2009 population estimate for the Winston-Salem, NC MSA was 484,921. The Greensboro - Winston-Salem - High Point combined statistical area (CSA), popularly referred to as the Piedmont Triad, had an estimated population of 1,581,122 in 2009 making it the 30th largest metropolitan area in the USA. Carolina Blog Brawl - I'm Brawling!

Hey guys & gals,

Winston Salem Dog Parks - Washington Park

My dogs, like most, love going on walks. If they hear the leash or collars rattle, then it's on! They are barking and jumping around like they are on a pogo stick. Dogs are allowed at all Winston Salem parks if they are on a leash. Washington Park, however, has a great dog park and you are allowed to "unleash" your pooch.
